Innovating Construction Safety: MindInventory and Navatech's AI-Driven Approach.

AI in Construction Safety

The Brief

  • Navatech Group is at the forefront of integrating cutting-edge technology including AI and ML, into high-risk industries across the globe that heavily rely on traditional methods in most of their
  • operations. The aim was to deliver innovative digital solutions that transform traditional processes and conventional systems in these industries, changing the way users interact with them.

The Challenge

  • They approached us with a need for an AI-powered Safety Chatbot Solution for workers of construction site which is one of the biggest in the gulf region. They saw a growing number of incidents involving miscommunications, delays, and accidents on-site, largely due to outdated methods like hand signals and language barriers for safety information and updates. Our job was to create a Solution that makes it easier for construction workers to communicate and get safety info in their native languages.

The Solution

  • We started with extensive research to gather industry-specific and target user-specific insights by visiting the team onsite, laying a solid foundation for AI based Safety Solution that has not been largely implemented in the construction industry. Once we identified the challenges faced by on-site workers, we focused on building a strong backend using a microservices architecture to ensure seamless and efficient communication between frontend and backend on mobile as well as web app.
  • Additionally, we successfully integrated the system with third-party tools such as RocketChat and Keycloak to enhance overall functionality and collaboration capabilities. Here's how we made these solutions work:

Collaboration Feature

This feature makes communication among coworkers and teams easier. It also allows users to report and block others, enhancing the platform's safety and user control. The feature also offers offline support to stay connected with coworkers even in areas with low internet coverage. Another key improvement is the optimization for low-configuration devices commonly used by site workers, ensuring usability regardless of hardware setup.

Chatbot Integration

The interactive chatbot, powered by SLM, is designed to swiftly answer any safety-related questions from workers. It offers quick access to information through animated visuals, handy pictorial PDFs, and instructional videos. We also built a feedback system to improve our AI model, allowing workers to easily share their thoughts on the content's helpfulness and suggest improvements.

Progress Tracking and Goal Setting

To maintain user engagement and motivation, the app introduced progress tracking and goal-setting features. Users could set specific entrepreneurial goals and track their progress over time. The app also offered personalized recommendations and resources based on users' goals, ensuring that the content remained relevant and aligned with individual aspirations.

Multilingual RTL & LTR Support

Now, to address the language barrier while accessing these safety materials, we implemented support for seven languages: Hindi, English, Urdu, Arabic, Bengali, Malayalam, and Mandarin in both the chat and AI chatbot features of the solution.

The Impact

  • This solution has not only made the construction site safer but has also created a more efficient and connected environment. Now, by using these features, workers can easily share updates, get real-time safety alerts, and access vital information in their native languages.
